Eggs and grilled meat are particularly popular among the athletes
In every Olympic games, there are some issues with the logistics which are quickly (or not so quickly) resolved and Paris 2024 is no excuse. But in this edition of the games, problems arose quickly, days before the competition even started. Not only that the opening ceremony (scheduled for Friday) will not be fully rehearsed, but the organizers are now having problems with the basics – the food. Many athletes in the Olympic village have faced a shortage of food and already complained to the authorities.
According to L’Equipe, certain types of food, like eggs and grilled meats are demanded more, while breakfast is also more popular than other meals. Partner of Paris 2024 in the Olympic village, the service provider Soxedo confirmed the very high demand for certain products. With nearly 40,000 meals to serve per day and a main restaurant with 3,300 seats, the canteen is a major issue in the Olympic village and the first measure was to cut the rations a little, and that’s how the whole thing started. But, luckily for the athletes, the organizers hurried to provide more food than originally planned and increase the nearly 600 tons of fresh produce, which was predicted to be enough for the next 14 days.
"It has been requested to revise upwards the quantities initially planned" the Carrefour group in charge of supplying food products confirmed to L'Equipe. So, French gastronomy will ‘survive’ this crisis and deliver enough quality food without restrictions until the games end.
